Tips to Make Your Salon More Eco-Friendly

At Noa & Co., it is no secret that sustainability is one of our most important priorities, and we are excited to share our passion with hairstylists and salons everywhere. Read along as we discuss 5 super simple ways to create a more eco-friendly and less toxic salon environment for you and your clientele!

First (and easily most fun!) on the list we have, adding plants to your salon space. Plants create a beautiful and calming atmosphere, and they are decor that never goes out of style. Not to mention there is no better air purifier than adding some plants to your area! We did a quick google search on plants that help remove formaldehyde (because we all know that is a big one in salons) and here are a few that we found: Boston Fern, Peace Lily, Dracaena, and English Ivy just to name a few. So, grab a plant or ten. Your clients will love them and your air will too.

Serving clients filtered water instead of bottled water can be a HUGE way to cut down on waste in your salon. Think about how many clients your salon sees a day and imagine if each one of them were handed a single bottle of water. Now imagine each one of those bottles ending up in an ocean or landfill! AHH that's a scary thought! Breathe in and breathe out, okay, let's all commit to this one. Say it with us, “No. More. Bottled. Water.” Feels good right?

Another way to cut back on waste is using Noa & Co.’s sustainable salon wear. Noa & Co was founded with the goal of providing professional hairstylists with thoughtfully designed, sophisticated, and functional salon wear that keeps our mother earth in mind. We are committed to addressing the issues of sustainability within the salon industry one step at a time. Our ELVTE cutting cape (our first product) was made with the hair stylist in mind snapping in the front and leaving the back smooth to create a clean and flat cutting surface. It is made of high-end fabrics made of Econyl® yarn, a 100% regenerated nylon fiber/yarn, made from pre- and post-consumer waste such as fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring, and industrial plastic.

Speaking of recycled waste, there are great companies like Green Circle Salons that help salons recycle and do their part in becoming more eco-friendly. Per their website, the beauty industry sends 877 pounds of waste into the landfill every single minute. Green circle allows you to recycle your foils, excess hair color, hair clippings, plastic, and more. We can’t recommend them enough, definitely go check out their website!

Okay, this one we saved for last because it might be the most simple on our list, but shavings make a pile right??  Jump online for educational courses. If there is anything positive we can take from the pandemic, it’s that so much more is digital these days, so why not take classes online. Not only are you not getting in your car to sit in traffic sending harmful chemicals into the atmosphere, but you are also able to cut down on paper waste from the class handouts. When you take a step back and look at the big picture, it’s scary how much waste our industry creates. While making the people of our world beautiful, let's do our part in keeping that world a beautiful too.
